Finding a community of likeminded people can be helpful for curbing impostor syndrome. So can beefing up on your subject matter so that you reinforce what you know and even build on that knowledge to grow your expertise even further.

Hi Sue, I agree about finding your tribe of like-minded people and building your expertise. I have heard many stories about people in positions of authority say something insensitive or hurtful to a student, volunteer, or employee that has a lasting impact. A professor once told me that his friend was working on this doctoral thesis for a year. His advisor didn't make himself very available. The student eventually got feedback on a near-complete doctoral paper. The teacher responded with a three-word comment, "This is shit". No surprise that this was devastating for the student's confidence.
